The Carpenter’s Shop is a NPO focused on providing homeless people (most of whom are living on the street) and people at risk of being homeless with access to Dignity and Opportunities for Change through a range of relevant services & interventions that include social care, short term accommodation, and development workshops.
The Carpenter’s Shop aims to be a point of contact for people to have access to a trusted Social Care team through providing needed services such as daily ablutions, toilet & laundry facilities, access to nutritional meals (through partnerships with other organisations), social work services, a monthly wellness clinic, life skills teaching and short term 2nd phase shelter accommodation (for vulnerable employed men).
Through engagement with our clients, we are able to better assist them with the aim of helping them to be reunited with their families, reintegrated into society through employment, or, where needed, to refer people to organisations equipped to assist with their long-term needs.
The Carpenter’s Shop operates on the following basic values:
• We treat all people with respect, understanding and fairness.
• We serve all people regardless of race, religion, or worldview.
• We uphold Christian principles in practical application.
The homeless population in Cape Town comprises around 7700 people, though the exact number is difficult to confirm due to the transient nature of our clients’ habits.
Schmidhauser Electrical & Plumbing Group is greatly appreciative for being included to helping them upgrade their precinct. Its looking a lot better since we started with no hot water over winter in two of the main houses.
We also heard a wonderful story told by their marketing Director Ms. Janet Chadwick and her amazing contribution to this very worthy cause. If any other member of the public would like to get involved, you can reach us on;
